- Kustodiev was a prominent member of Mir Isskusstva (World of Art) and famous for his portraits of the upper and lower classes. With the coming fo the Bolshevik revolution, he embraced the Soviet cause and designed posters, satirical cartoons, labor demonstrations, and children's books extolling the virtues of Marxism.
