Provenance
Kane MS. 3 was written in northern Italy in the first quarter of the 13th century. Grenville Kane (1854-1943), of Tuxedo Park, N.Y., purchased the manuscript from the New York antiquarian bookseller Wildrid M.. Voynich (1865-1930) in 1924 and added his bookplate to the inside front cover and his dated pencil note of acquisition on fol. i recto. Princeton University Library acquired the manuscript from Kane's heirs in 1946.

Notes
Script: Textualis rotunda.
Decoration: Apocalypse opens with a 3-line initial A in red, filled with orange, and outlined with simple green and orange-red pen flourishes (fol. 2r).
Binding Note
Italy, 18th century. Green morocco over paste-board. The textblock is sewn on five raised bands. The spine has a hand-written round green label with the number “153.” Spine title (gilt on red leather): “apo s. ioa” (i.e., “Apocalypsis Sanctis Ioannis”).
