- Depiction: Caricature; political satire. Allegorical scene. Polish officer stands with sword in each hand, in front of tree. He is surrounded by bears representing Russian soldiers; a woman and child cling him. A cap of liberty is on the tree, just above his head. He says: "Slaves I have set my life upon a cast - And I will stand the hazard of the die' [Richard III, III. Iv]. In background at left, Louis Philippe sits with his back to Frenchmen who are shouting 'Down with the Russians". At right John Bull holds a plow inscribed "Reform".
