Item Summary

A rare and largely unpublished collection of Sufi texts, all in Arabic with the exception of text 8, which is in Ottoman Turkish. Pages inbetween texts (fol. 1a-3a, 31b-32a, 51a, 140b-141a, 117b-118a, 150b-153b) include Persian poems on mystical and Shiʻite subjects, entries in Arabic and Ottoman Turkish, and ownership entries.

1. fol. 3a-28b: Hādhā al-kitāb Waṣāyāyi qudsīyah. A waṣīyah from the Sufi Zayn al-Dīn Khwāfī to his friends and children.
2. fol. 28b-31a: A treatise on the ten principles for the purification of the soul, by Abū al-Najīb al-Kubrá al-Khīwafī.
3. fol. 32b-48b: Mishkāt al-miṣbāḥ fī bayān awrād al-masāʼ wa-al-ṣabāḥ. A work in 5 sections which explains the customs and practices of a Sufi ṭarīqah, including prayers, fasting, and seclusion.
4. fol. 49a-50b: A short treatise on the sayings of Shaykh Muḥammad ibn ʻAī al-Bisṭāmī.
5. fol. 51b-117a: Ḥadāʼiq al-ḥaqāʼiq. A treatise in 60 chapters covering basic Sufi concepts.
6. fol. 118b-140a: Kitāb al-Tajrīd fī kalimat al-tawḥīd. Treatise on the signification of the kalimat al-tawḥīd, "lā ilāha illā Allāh". Formerly owned by Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad.
7. fol. 141b-148b: Asrār Manāqib al-abrār. An incomplete commentary on the Sufi biographical dictionary, Manāqib al-abrār wa-maḥāsin al-akhyār.
8. fol. 149a-150a: Hāz̲ā Aṭvār-i qalb haft kūnah ast. A short Sufi treatise on the states of the heart in Ottoman Turkish.

Description: Rubricated ; a few words smudged, some pages browned, some margins dampstained, and two quires loose.
Origin: [A treatise] Copied by Aḥmad ibn Ilyās ibn Ṭūrmush (fol. 31), he may also be the copyist for Waṣāyāyi qudsīyah as the texts appear to be written by the same hand -- [Waṣāyāyi qudsīyah] Copy completed towards the end of Rabīʻ al-Awwal 954 (April 1547) in the village of Abū Ayyūb al-Ansārī (Eyüp, Turkey) -- [Mishkāt al-miṣbāḥ] An entry at the end of this work written in a khāniqāh called Muḥammad Āghā dates 996 (1587-8) -- [Ḥadāʼiq al-ḥaqāʼiq] Copy completed by Idrīs ibn Rayḥān towards the end of Shawwāl 875 (April 1471)
