- Presumably first owned by Andrea Gradenigo, who received the commission in 1531. Intermediate provenance is unknown. Owned in the mid-19th century by Alessandro Volpi. Acquired by Gustav R. von Emich who sold it in 1900 at Sotheby's to Poole (possibly John Poole & Co). Purchased by John Work Garrett, Class of 1896, from whom it was acquired in 1902 by his brother Robert Garrett (1875-1961), of Baltimore, Maryland, Class of 1897. Robert Garrett's bookplate is on the inside front cover. His gift to the Princeton University Library, 1942.

- Decoration: Opening has a full border of gold and blue floriate and foliate ornament set against a blue background with a medallion on each side: Lion of St. Mark (top); landscape of a hill with trees and shrubs, probably depicting Monteselice (left); modern replacement, with church set in a similar landscape (right); Gradenigo arms set in a landscape with hills in background (bottom) (fol. 1r). 1-line red and blue initials.

- Contemporaneous binding. Venice, approximately 1531. Dark red goatskin over pasteboard. Gold-stamped and framed border. Central gold-stamped circular device containing the name "andreae: gradenico" on the upper cover and containing a flaming urn on the lower cover. Remnants of pins for 4 ties.
