Item description: Accompanied by small note inscribed, 'Dr. John Rogers came from new Castle, Del. to N.Y. in 1753. He became powerful revolutionary preacher. His sermons were famous. He fled when loyalist troops entered city, & was successively minister at Amenia NY & resumed his position. He was first minister of the Brick Presbyterian Church. His son (a famous M.D.) married Susan, daughter of Reverand Kearny of Perth Amboy. Dr. Rogers married as second wife, Hannah Rhea Caldwell Smith, widow of James Robertson Smith.'
