Provenance
Garrett MS. 45 was probably produced in France around the turn of the 16th century. The manuscript's early provenance is unknown, but it was evidently made for a religious community. Robert Garrett (1875-1961), of Baltimore, Maryland, Class of 1897, purchased the manuscript at an unknown date. His bookplate is on the inside front cover. His gift to the Library, 1942.

1r-153r. Gradual for monastic use including Temporale from the third Sunday in Lent to the Wednesday of Holy Week, followed by two extra offertories: “Dextera domini” and “Jubilate deo omnis terra.” Opens with the Introit “Oculi mei,” and includes Introits, graduals, tracts, offertories, communions, and the chants and rubrics for the blessing of palms and procession on Palm Sunday (beginning on fol. 96v). Proper chants for each day are included, with historiated initials differentiating the beginning of each week (fols. 1r, 33v, 67r, and 117v).
153r-158v. Mass for the dedication of a church. After the usual alleluia “Adorabo ad templum” there is a second one, “Bene fundata” (fol. 106r).

Renaissance French decoration of the turn of the 16th century; includes five historiated initials (approximately 170 x 170 mm) with full borders illustrating the appointed Gospel text for the day and marking the opening of Introits on Sundays and the Mass for the dedication of the church.
