Item Summary

The Digital Imaging Studio continues to experiment with specialized imaging, working with researchers to see materials in new ways! We regularly use our Selene photometric stereo system to examine surface detail of materials. This stamp seal, which is no larger than a dime, has artwork carved into chalcedony. Shown below are images of the seal in normal light, a shaded grayscale render of the depth map, and a composite of those two images, which can assist the researcher in examining the craft of the engraving and what possible tools were used.
