Afkari – Behieh Namjoo, mother of Navid Afkari, who was executed in 2020 despite claims of innocence, faced a new crisis. Her daughter, Elham Afkari, was arrested during the 2022 Iran protests and taken to an undisclosed location. Behieh waited anxiously outside the detention center for days, seeking information about her daughter's condition and location.
Khodanour – Khodanour Lojei, a 27-year-old Baluchi protester from the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan was killed during the Zahedan massacre on September 30, 2022. A photograph circulated widely, showing him with his hands tied to a flagpole while a cup of water sat out of his reach. The Iranian authorities posted this image online with the intention to further humiliate him.
Kids – Amid the 2022 protests in Iran, there have been reports of the recruitment of minors to suppress these demonstrations. Photos have emerged depicting children in Basij militia uniforms, a branch of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
killed-dogo – Majid Gharebaghi, a protester in Iran, joined the nationwide protest in September 2022 following the police killing of Mahsa Jina Amini. He was arrested in Tehran on November 22, 2022, and his dog was shot three times in front of him by security forces. Gharebaghi faced serious charges but was released in March 2023 after spending over four months in prison.
Schoolgirls – Iranian schoolgirls have been at the forefront of the women's freedom movement in Iran, after the police killing of Mahsa Jina Amini. They have been protesting against mandatory hijabs and have faced alleged chemical gas attacks during protests since November 2022, with reports of thousands of students being affected in subsequent months.
Ronaghi – Hossein Ronaghi, an Iranian activist and political prisoner, actively participated in the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, enduring arrest and hunger strikes to protest prison conditions and torture. Despite facing pressure and harassment, he continues to advocate for justice and freedom.
Stairway-to-heaven – Mehran Shekari, a 22-year-old protester, was shot dead by security forces on the 40th day (Chehelom) following the police killing of Hadis Najafi in Karaj. An image, taken from a rooftop, which captured his lifeless body lying on the ground, blood flowing from his head gained widespread attention on social media. His family received his body five days later, and he was laid to rest in a private ceremony attended solely by immediate family members.
