Surrounded by eleven wood engravings, variously signed "Eastman," "H. Eastman, del.," and "Anthony & Baker."
Hutchings' Miner's ten commandments first appeared in the June 2, 1853, issue of the Placerville herald, and was frequently re-published with illustrations, selling as many as 97,000 copies in one year. Cf. Hutchings, J.M. Seeking the elephant, 1849, 1980, p. 22.
