1, 4 – Yahya Rahimi, a 31-year-old Iranian citizen, was shot in the head and killed by Iranian security forces on October 8, 2022, in Sanandaj, in the Kurdistan province of Iran. This event occurred following the police killing of Mahsa Jina Amini, as Yahya Rahimi honked his car horn in support of the anti-government protests. On his way to work, two men attacked his car, breaking the windshield. As he drove away, a gunshot was heard, and Rahimi lost his life. She was arrested by the Morality Police on the accusation of not wearing the “proper” hijab, She ultimately lost her life due to torture while in police custody. Amini's death sparked the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, originating in Saqqez and Kurdistan before spreading across Iran and beyond. The movement's rallying cry, "Jin, Jiyan, Azadî," meaning "Woman, Life, Freedom" in Kurdish (and was also translated as “Zan, Zendegi, Azadi” into Persian), has become a symbol in the fight for justice and liberation.
