Ordonnance de l'Amirauté de France [electronic resource] : portant injonction à toutes personnes demeurantes dans l'étendue de l'Amirauté de France, ou des Amirautés particulieres de son ressort, qui ont à leur service des Nègres ou Mulâtres, de l'un ou l'autre sexe, d'en faire leur déclaration en personne ou par procureur, au greffe de l'Amirauté de France, ou aux greffes des Amirautés particulieres de son ressort; & à tous Nègres ou Mulâtres qui ne sont au service de personne, de faire pareille déclaration, sous telles peines qu'il appartiendra.

Ordinance forcing both black slaves, free blacks, and mulattos of both sexes to register and declare their residence while living in France; this ordinance also requires people of color to give such information as where they arrived from, on which vessel, name and surname, whether they are are baptized or not, and from which colony they came.

The Sid Lapidus '59 Collection on Liberty and the American Revolution
After nearly 60 years of collecting, Sid Lapidus ’59 has presented to the Library more than 2700 volumes representing the fruits of his enthusiasm. Broadly conceived, the collection charts the definition and re-definiton of rights and liberties endemic to Western political traditions. The main focus is texts and documents relating to the American Revolution, its run-up dating back to the Commonwealth men, and coming down to documents of the early Federal government.
