"On the third page appears a cartoon, cut on wood or typemetal, showing 'Americanus' [Joseph Galloway] on his way to the Bucks County election, accompanied by the Buckram Marquis of New Barrataria [Thomas Wharton]. He carries the 5 Mile Stone on his back, and is trampling on the Goddess Liberty, the Bill of Rights, and the Pennsylvania Charter, while the devil whispers in his ear 'Don't flinch, my Dear Galloway. I'll support you.' ... The cartoon is accompanied by a vicious attack upon Galloway signed by the paper's publisher, William Goddard. Galloway and Goddard, at one time partners, had quarreled and become bitter enemies.
