Provenance
Unknown early and intermediate provenance. Owned by Sir Thomas Phillipps, perhaps purchased from Thomas Rodd II. Sold from the Phillipps collection in 1896. Bernard Quaritch put it up for sale in 1902. Purchased from Quaritch by Robert Garrett on 1 October 1905. Garrett deposited the manuscript in the Princeton University Library in February 1906 (deposit no. 1397). His gift to the Library, 1942.

Incipit: “Owre lorde Ihesu cryst tellyth seynte Birgytte why he chesyth hyr to be hys spovse and how as a spowse she awyth to aray hyr and be redy to hym. I am maker of heuen and erth and see and of all thynges that ben in hem. I am one wyth the fader and the holy goste nott as goddys of stones or of golde as sometyme was seyde, ne mony goddys as then was wende, bott on god ffadere and sone and holy goste..”
Ending : “…so þat the glorious sepulcre of god myght be had in due reuerence yf he had be sufficient to haue brought it about. And"

Collation: Parchment ; fol. iv (paper) + 77 + vii (paper) ; catchwords on verso of last folio in each quire ; modern foliation in pencil.
Layout: 30-35 lines per page ; lightly frame-ruled in brown.
Description: Rubricated ; later endpapers have watermark (letters surmounted by a crown)
Decoration: The first chapter has a 7-line blue initial. Two-line blue initials begin the rubric to the first chapters and all subsequent chapters. Manicules (fol. 75v, 76r)
Binding Note
Later binding. France (?), late 16th or early 17th century. Brown calf over pasteboard. Gold-stamped oval medallion that depicts a Crucifixion scene with the letters "BS", and gold-tooled edging on covers. Small gold-stamped medallions on spine. Endbands.
