Provenance
Taylor MS. 3 is of unknown early provenance. The first attested owner is William Cecil, Lord Burghley (1520-1598). The manuscript later was acquired by the London bookseller Ellis, which offered it in Catalogue 211 (1923), no. 12. E.H.W. Meyerstein (1887-1952), of Morent's Court, Kent, acquired the manuscript. On fol. i recto his monogram is surrounded by the date 1923 and accompanied with a note identifying the signature of William Cecil on fol. 40r. The manuscript was sold again by Sotheby, London, on 17 December 1952. Robert H. Taylor (1908-1985), of Princeton, New Jersey, Class of 1930, acquired the manuscript from the Seven Gables Bookshop, New York City, in December 1955. Taylor's bookplate is on the inside front cover. His bequest to the Princeton University Library, 1985.

Script: Bastard Anglicana, by one scribe.
Decoration: Blue 3-line initials with red pen flourishes extending into margins for Sidrac questions, fols. 10r-31v, unexecuted from fols. 32r-39r. Brut table of contents opens fol. 40r with 5-line parti-colored initial T with red and black pen-flourished initial for the rubric, followed by a 3-line blue initial for the first chapter in the list, and a bar of red and blue with red and black pen-flourished initial the length of the inside margin.
Binding Note
England, 18th century. Brown calf over pasteboard; gold tooling on board edges; two concentric rectangles, fleurons blind-stamped at outside of each corner and on the inside perimeter; gilt edges.
