The author seemed to have a long career ahead of himself until he was accused of spreading bourgeois propaganda and condemned as counter revolutionary. He was forbidden to publish any more and his work was confiscated.
The illustrator was a versatile Soviet graphic artist. He designed propaganda posters for ROSTA during the Revolution and contributed to various satirical magazines. He took up children's books after the war. His promising career was tragically cut short when he drowned while swimming in a river. He illustrated the hand-lettered Spor mezhdu domami in the loose graphic manner of his ROSTA posters.
