Provenance
Early and intermediate provenance unknown. Later in the library of Edward Vernon Utterson (1775/76-1856), a British antiquarian and founding member of the Roxburghe Club. Sold at Sotheby's, London in 1852 and acquired by Joseph Brooks Yates (1780-1855). Later in the possession of Henry Yates Thompson (1838-1928), who probably received it from his mother, Mrs. Samuel Henry Thompson, the eldest daughter of Joseph Yates. The manuscript was sold again at Sotheby's in London, on 3 June 1905 and acquired by the bookseller Bernard Quarich. Robert Garrett (1875-1961), of Baltimore, Maryland, Class of 1897, purchased the manuscript from Quaritch on 1 october 1905 and placed it on deposit in the Princeton University Library (no. 1445) in 1942.

Origin: Written in England (possibly Herefordshire) in the early 15th century.
Binding Note
Bound in England, in the early 19th century in brown tree calf gilt over pasteboards; rebacked; endbands with secondary sewing in red and tan; fore-edge title (brown ink): “prick consc.”; spine title: “YE PRICK OF CONSCIENCE M.S.”
