Depiction: Maid with candle on right enters room in which upper left woman, young man sit on adjacent chairs.
Inscribed in ink, lower center: "Whilst in the dark on they soft hand I hung . . .".
Unsigned.
Title above, inscription below, both in TR's hand. Brilliantly animated pen sketch ca. 1805 using a fine nib - Rowlandson captures the attitudes of all three figures with economy and wit. Probably an idea for a 'Miseries of Human Life' series print neve.
