World War II veterans listen to an evening concert on the anniversary of the "Great Patriotic War" (the Soviet name for World War II) at the Brest Fortress.
The Brest Fortress marks the site of the beginning of the Second World War for the Soviet Union which had been confronted with German forces during Operation Barbarossa.
Operation Barbarossa was the largest military offensive in human history, involving approximately 10 million combatants and resulting in over 8 million casualties by the operation's conclusion.
