War Museums - 1-29

The series War Museums examines the exhibition aesthetics of Soviet-era museums through emblematic sites of memory in Belarus: the Khatyn Memorial Complex, the original Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Minsk, the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War in Grodno, and the Museum of the Defense of the Brest Fortress. Some of these institutions have since been relocated and fully re-exhibited, reflecting shifts in curatorial practice and historical framing.

Unlike contemporary museums, Soviet exhibitions were characterized by high informational density and a concentrated presentation of material. Each artifact was carefully attributed and embedded within a personal narrative: letters, newspaper clippings, military insignia, uniforms, diaries, photographs, and weapons collectively formed a detailed and emotionally charged account of wartime experience.
