Item Summary

Sixth volume of Ibn Taghrībirdī's historical treatise, contanining the annals of Egypt from 801 to 836 H. [1398-1433]. The text starts with the reign of al-Malik al-Nāṣir Faraj and closes during the reign of al-Malik al-Ashraf Barsbāy. After the colophon (fol. 243b), the text continues for half a page on fol. 244a, with a table of contents of the next part, entitled: "Dhikr mā ishtamala ʻalayhi hādhā al-juzʼ min mulūk Miṣr".

Layout: 25 lines per page ; ruled.
Description: Written in medium small script in black ink with use of red for entries and punctuation. Headings in larger script in dark red ink. Thick light cream paper with laid and chain lines visible.
Decoration: Illuminated title-page in gold, blue and white, with a medallion on the left margin on fol. 2a.
Origin: Copy (or text?) completed in Dhū al-Qaʻdah 861 [Sept. 1457] (colophon, fol. 243b).

Binding Note
Later type II (with flap) Ottoman binding in dark brown leather over paper pasteboards. Gold-stamped mandorla with pendants and cornerpieces on covers and decorative edging. Similar decoration on flap. Violet paper pastedown and free endpaper. Red glazed embossed paper pastedown on the envelope flap.
