Title from colophon (fol. 343b).
Physical description: 15 lines per page. Written in medium small naskh in black ink with use of red for headings and re-inking. European paper with watermark. Marginal and interlinear annotations. Annotations on slips of paper pasted between the original leaves. First four fol. apparently later additions, with a table of contents and short excerpts from several texts. Foliation in pencil using Western numerals (omits first fol.).
Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the upper cover: "Ḥadīth 29(?)". Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of upper cover: "259/2 Ḥ".
Origin: Copy completed on 15 Rabīʻ al-Ākhar 898 [Feb. 3, 1493] by ʻAbd al-Awwal Ibn Ibrāhīm al-Muhājirī (colophon, fol. 343b).
Explicit: من الحسان عن انس رضى الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلّم مثل امّتى مثل المطر لا يدرى اوله خير ام آخره.
Incipit: الحمد لله وسلام على عباده الذين اصطفى والصلوة التامة الدايمة على رسوله ... قال الشيخ الامام الاجلّ السيّد محىى السنة ناصر الحديث شيخ الاسلام ابو محمد الحسين بن مسعود البغوى الفرآ اما بعد فهذه الفاظ صدرت على صدر النبوة وسنن سارت عن معدن الرسالة.
Binding Note
Brown leather over paper pastedowns for upper and lower covers, fore-edge flap and envelope flap. Silver tooling and stamping on covers and flaps. Paper pastedown (the doublure of the lower cover has apparently a now covered central mandorla, see trace on the opposite folio).
