Item Summary

Consists of an undated manuscript by Robert Lawrence, which was often mistakenly called THE THOMAS OLDEN DIARY and attributed to Olden. It is a narrative of the ravages and atrocities committed by the Hessians and the British in and around Princeton, NJ; with short accounts of the battles of Trenton and Princeton. The narrative is set between January 3, 1777 and April 18, 1777, the date when the last paragraph was written. Lawrence states that the fighting "was plain within sight of our door at about 400 yards distance."
